Purpose of Music

A lot of preparing, planning, and praying has been put into this year’s music program. I am excited about the many things that will be taught and learned in your child’s music class!

But before I get into the details of what your child will be learning, I want all parents to understand the importance of learning music.

In the Bible, music is suppose to be God-centered, not self-centered. That is why Pastor does not favor clapping after music specials in church. Also, it is why singers should not sing in a way that draws attention to one’s talent. 

God created music with the intent of it being used to praise Him. Music is mentioned over 500 times in the Bible; music must have been important to God. Many Bible scholars believe that the Old Testament was written with the intention to be chanted or sung. Knowing this, we can argue that Christians are not to sing in a way that is for personal pleasure, nor is it for “reaching out” to the world with the music that is familiar to the world, such as “Christian Rock” or “Contemporary Christian Music.” Music is to ALWAYS glorify God by singing His Word.

Let me conclude, that what pleases God is not the volume of music, but the condition of the heart. Music always reveals one's heart. I am committed to teaching your child to properly sing, read notes, understand music concepts, play instruments; but above all, my ultimate goal and prayer is that God will use the avenue of music to capture their hearts.

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19. 

O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.

For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,
